Years back, a friend gave me a Schampa balaclava. Although I never wore it, I could see that it was well made. Thus, I recently went to the website and ordered two different products, one being the Pro-Series Balaclava. I noted that its length is more than adequate to tuck into any jacket, hoodie or sweater, sealing the neck very well.
During a cold snap, I wore it while riding my MTB on local roads. It was 21ºF/-6ºC, so it was the acid test. Bicycle helmets are heavily vented and initially, it felt like it would be too cool. However, after a few miles, I was convinced that it was simply excellent. Body heat and circulation kept my head warm, but not hot. The breathing holes are brilliant and did not fog my helmet-mounted goggles in the slightest. The eye port was just right and did not "shrink down" or impair my vision at all. Overall, I am delighted. Well-done, Schampa!
